I am an experienced Deaf Education and Language Access Specialist, ASL Instructor, and consultant dedicated to bridging communication gaps and fostering true inclusivity across professional and educational settings.

A Native Texan, I grew up hard of hearing and later became profoundly deaf. This personal journey provides a deep, lived understanding of the challenges of communication access and the profound value of ASL. With this unique perspective, I have built my expertise through formal study at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (M.A. in Special Education; B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice).

Experience

My expertise is grounded in practical, diverse experience, including:

Deaf Educator: Experience teaching at schools for the deaf in Texas and Colorado.

ASL Instructor: Implementing lesson plans and providing mentorship for an Interpreter Preparation Program at a community college.

Communication Consultant: Drawing on extensive experience coordinating and ensuring robust language support and interpretation services for large, complex organizations, guaranteeing full ADA compliance and cultural competence.

Mission: Culture, Value, and Clarity

Effective communication is the cornerstone of successful teams and learning environments. My core mission is centered on the value of American Sign Language and the necessity of communication accessibility.

I believe that complete communication access is essential for everyone to have both inclusion and a full voice in the discussion.  ASL is one avenue to achieving this. A comprehensive knowledge of deaf culture is integral to truly mastering American Sign Language.  This commitment to holistic understanding is reflected in my studies on the disparities faced by marginalized groups who face access barriers and in customized instruction I design to enhance cultural competence and accessibility.

Services & Expertise

My services are designed for individuals, groups and families committed to achieving accessibility and mastering ASL:

ASL Instruction, Tutoring, & Conversation Practice: Instruction for adult students of sign language, families, and interpreters seeking fluency and instructional support. This includes extensive experience tutoring ASL interpreters from schools around the country, preparing them for professional practice.

Group Training & Public Speaking: Customized presentations on topics including the value of ASL, deaf culture and signing community best practices.
